2018 runner-up Richard Gasquet happy to be back and playing well in Bastad
French tennis star Richard Gasquet was in great spirits after overcoming Austrian Dennis Novak in Bastad.
No. 4 seed Gasquet came from a set down to avoid an upset against world No. 121 Novak 4-6 6-3 6-4.
Former world No. 7 Gasquet kicked off his season in May after undergoing a surgery at the beginning of the year.
"It was an important match for me to win," Gasquet said during his on-court interview after beating Novak.
Gasquet, 33, fell just short of having a dream Bastad debut last year as he ended runner-up in the final to Italy's Fabio Fognini.
"I did the final so I'm very happy to come back. I have great memories from Bastad as I have said so I will try my best again," Gasquet acknowledged.
Gasquet will fight against Ivan Londero for a place in the Bastad semifinal.
When asked about his title chances, Gasquet said: "You never know, you never know. Every match is difficult. I will try to fight and we will see what will happen."
