ATP Geneva - DRAW: Roberto Bautista Agut, Fernando Verdasco lead the field

Located near the French border in the Bernese Alps, the Swiss Open in Gstaad is one of the most beautiful stops on the ATP calendar and the one with a great tradition as well, starting way back in 1915. It found a spot in the ATP calendar already in 1968 when the Open era began, with great names on the trophy winners list, including Emerson, Roche, Newcombe, Nastase, Vilas, Rosewall (one of his last ATP titles), Edberg, Bruguera and some other notable Spaniards, followed by Kafelnikov, Roger Federer and Dominic Thiem in 2015. Matteo Berrettini claimed the title in 2018 in a great style but had to withdraw before the draw, injuring a right ankle and having to skip the event where he claimed the first ATP crown.

The beaten finalist from 12 months ago, Roberto Bautista Agut is the top seed and the favorite, especially after reaching the semi-final at Wimbledon. Jaume Munar and Malek Jaziri are his potential second-round rivals, with Tommy Robredo, Joao Sousa and Steve Darcis closing the top quarter of the draw. Lorenzo Sonego and Corentin Moutet are the seeded players in the second quarter, with Thomas Fabbiano, Sandro Ehrat, Jiri Vesely, Ernests Gulbis and Cedrik-Marcel Stebe trying to spoil their party and advance into the semis.

Dusan Lajovic is the 3rd seed but he has to finish his Umag duties first, reaching the final in Croatia and hoping for the same kind of result in Gstaad, with Pablo Andujar, Taro Daniel, Denis Istomin and Marc-Andrea Huesler standing between him and the spot in the semis. In the bottom quarter, Fernando Verdasco kicks off his 18th ATP tournament of the season as the 2nd seed, battling against the fellow Spaniard Roberto Carballes Baena, Paolo Lorenzi, Stefano Travaglia, Henri Laaksonen and Albert Ramos-Vinolas for the last place in the semi-final.
