Boris Becker Says No Plans to Play any Exhibition Matches
Tennis - Former World No. 1 and six-time Grand Slam champion Boris Becker says he does not plan to return to the tennis court for any exhibition matches as he does not feel fit enough to play tennis anymore.
Becker was making an appearance at the annual international horse show CHIO in Aachen and said he preferred talking about the sport nowadays rather than playing it. Becker says he thinks himself to be a horse fan who occasionally likes to wing in the saddle. "As a horseback, I would not call that what I'm doing. I know very well that the horse knows I'm scared of it."
Many famous names from the entertainment scene were also present in Aachen on the occasion including Andrej Mangold with Jenny Lange, model Anna Hiltrop, Dany Michalski, Toni Dreher, Juliana Townsend, actor John Savage, Kai Ebel, Nelson Müller and Wolfgang Bosbach. The opening ceremony of the CHIO, involved about 1,000 contributors and several hundred horses.
Becker is now one of the top commentators in the sport and was also a coach for over three years to Novak Djokovic, with whom he won six Grand Slam titles. He has run into financial trouble in recent times and recently auctioned off his trophies in order to clear some of his prior debts.
According to the British auction house Wyles Hardy & Co, over 500,000 pounds were netted from the auction for several items from Becker's trophy collection.
