Doubles match between Roger Federer and Serena Williams was gold - Judy
Andy Murray's mother Judy commented on how the popularity of doubles can increase. Judy said: "You never know. There was a situation in the Hopman Cup this year when Roger Federer and Belinda Bencic played Frances Tiafoe and Serena, seller, it was and it was gold. I mean, two of the biggest tennis stars facing against each other. That's once in a blue moon, it's not going to happen. It was a wonderful showcase for the game and the power of men's and women's sides coming together."
Judy also spoke about how Andy is able to work well with women: "When he went to work with Amelie, for him she was just a perfect fit. Her game was very similar to his in terms of the variety she had, and the match nothing to do with gender. At the time he was surprised by the amount of interest it created smartness. It was and also the criticism it created as well. It was a great partnership. What it did was, it led to a number of female players bringing ex-female players into their entourages to provide that kind of icing on the cake during the major of icing event."
"They (players) feel that they (former players) understand the pressures of preparing for a Grand Slam. A major is a long time to keep your focus, so that partnership showcase female coaching. For Andy, he is still getting back into the game and doubles gives him the chance to get mental sharpness. Playing alongside Serena is just box- office gold", concluded Judy. Andy's next tournament is still unknown.
