I thought Roger Federer would have never played French Open again - Santoro
In an interview the former top 20 player Fabrice Santoro commented on the Roger Federer's comeback to the French Open. The Frenchman said: "That's an amazing gift for the French crowd. I did not think that he would have played again one day there. But he loves challenges. At almost 38 years, he is still very difficult to beat. He does not rest ahead of the grass season. In the previous years, I was a bit disappointed by not seeing him even if I understood the reasons very well. Federer is not definitely on the top three or four, but people tend to forget that if Nadal was not there, he would have been one of the best clay-courters. He played five finals and he won one."
On his job in the tournament, Santoro added: "With Bein Sports, I will work as an analyst, except the French Open, I will try to fully give my passion and give the best possible look. I do not think the crowd will be that different. We need to make people passionate."
Casper Ruud's father, Christian, spoke about the potential clash against Federer in the third round: "It's difficult to know what Ernests Gulbis will be in the first round. Facing Federer in a Grand Slam tournament was a little dream became true, but both of them will have to play and win two matches. Casper can beat a lot of top guys, but on an average day he needs to be careful about many."
