U21 Race to Milan: Shapovalov passes Ruud. Tsitsipas and Auger-Aliassime..
The updated U21 Race to Milan list saw little changes in the top-10, with Denis Shapovalov moving back in front of Casper Ruud in places four and five. Unlike a year ago in Toronto, Stefanos Tsitsipas had a short Montreal campaign, losing in the second round to Hubert Hurkacz (the Pole played the NextGen Masters in November last year) but still having a massive lead over Felix Auger-Aliassime and the rest of the field. The 19-year-old Canadian spent a birthday at home in Montreal, losing to Karen Khachanov in the fourth round for 90 points that still keep him in contention for the ATP Finals where we should see Stefanos Tsitsipas.
Alex de Minaur lost in the first round in Montreal to Daniel Evans, standing 50 points ahead of Denis Shapovalov who won the first match since May before losing in the second round to Dominic Thiem. After reaching the semi-final in Kitzbuhel, Casper Ruud took a week off to recharge batteries and get back in action in Cincinnati, qualifying for the main draw and facing Guido Pella there. The struggling American Frances Tiafoe has lost eight of the last ten encounters, stuck on 800 points but still safe in front of Miomir Kecmanovic who has qualified for the main draw in Cincinnati, playing against Felix Auger-Aliassime in the first round.
Ugo Humbert is missing both Montreal and Cincinnati, staying on 658 points and still keeping that last direct spot for Milan if Stefanos Tsitsipas decides to skip it, which is more than likely. Corentin Moutet, Mikael Ymer and Alexei Popyrin will have to produce something more on the ATP Tour or Challengers to battle against the rivals in front of them.
