Jeremy Chardy: I was seeking revenge win over Cristian Garin
France's Jeremy Chardy was seeking a "revenge" in his Bastad round-of-16 clash against Chile's Cristian Garin.
Chardy, ranked at No. 80 in the world, saw off No. 1 seed Garin 6-4 6-4 to progress into the Bastad quarterfinal.
Earlier this season, the Frenchman was edged out by Garin the Houston round-of-16 after blowing a total of five match points.
"Just revenge," Chardy said on the court, when asked what was he thinking on the match ppint.
"Today I wanted to win so badly. It's good. I played a good match. It's good for the confidence, for the rest of the tournament.
Chardy claimed the first break of the match in the fifth game and then held on to his serve to claim the opener.
The Frenchman made a slow start to the second set as Garin got off to an early 3-0 lead.
However, Chardy kept his focus as he broke the Chilean twice in a row to win four games in a row and take a 5-3 lead before serving out for the match in the 10th game.
Chardy plays next against another Chilean, Nicolas Jarry.
