Joao Sousa preparing for 'tough' quarterfinal at Bastad
Portuguese tennis ace Joao Sousa is preparing for a tough quarterfinal clash in Bastad as he insists it won't be easy against Argentina's Federico Delbonis.
Sousa, seeded at No. 8, came from a set down to beat home favorite wildcard Elias Ymer 4-6 6-4 6-2.
Meanwhile, world No. 70 Delbonis saw off Uruguayan Pablo Cuevas 6-4 6-4 to progress into the quarterfinal.
"He is a great player. I have known him very well since we were very young. So it is going to be one more very tough match. There is no easy matches here so I'm going to give my best," Sousa said on the court after beating Ymer.
There were no breaks of serve until the 10th game of the first set, when Ymer broke Sousa to win the opener.
World No. 56 Sousa responded well to losing the first set as he broke the Swede twice in a row to take a comfortable 4-0 second set lead before serving out for the set in the 10th game.
Ymer led 2-1 after the opening three games of the decider but then Sousa won five games in a row to complete a comeback and seal the win.
Sousa leads the head-to-head against Delbonis 3-2.
