Nicolas Jarry praises promising Swede Mikael Ymer after Bastad clash
Rising Chilean star Nicolas Jarry praised promising Swede Mikael Ymer after their Bastad round-of-16 clash.
Jarry, seeded at No. 5, handed a straight-set defeat to wildcard Ymer 7-5 6-3 to progress into the quarterfinal.
The Chilean got off to a good start as he won the opening three games of the match but his lead didn't last long as world No. 124 Ymer won the following three games to quickly get back into the set.
Jarry blew three set points in the 10th game but still claimed the opener as he saved a break point in the 11th game before breaking Ymer in the following game.
World No. 64 Jarry got broken in the opening game of the second set but didn't panic as he easily overturned the deficit to seal a straight-set win.
"(It was a) very tough match. Mikael is a great player, very young and tough fighter so it was really tough... I had to keep (my) focus," Jarry said during his on-court interview.
"The crowd was on his side but it was (a) very fun match."
Jarry will play next against Jeremy Chardy, who knocked out No. 1 seed Cristian Garin.
