Novak Djokovic is close and far from Roger Federer's 20 Majors - Coach
In an interview to Sport.sk, Novak Djokovic's longtime coach Marian Vajda spoke about Serbian player's chances to break Roger Federer's 20 Grand Slam titles record. Djokovic now holds 16 titles. "He is close and far. Novak is at the top again. Now he needs to rest, train well and prepare for Us Open. He needs to have a good schedule. Novak appreciates my big help. He said that many times in the past. We know each other well and we communicate together. I have a big influence on him and the results are clear. We want to keep working, improving and most of all winning Grand Slams."
On Goran Ivanisevic joining the team, Vajda added: "I accepted it with humbleness. We were sadder because we did not win the French Open. I am optimistic about Goran's arrival. Before Wimbledon, we had to give a bit of energy to the team. Goran brought new energy. Of course, it's still work in progress and we do not know where this co-operation will lead to. He was with us in Wimbledon for a week. He was active and positive. I know very well Goran. We have a pretty similar mindset. He is a modest and happy guy."
Meanwhile a close source commented on Federer possibly playing exhibition matches in South America: "The news that Federer could come to Argentina is a very recent one and I had no contact with the people who want to bring him to the country, obviously it would be a dream to have him in Rosario, but we are speaking of a very high amount that we do not know if we will be able to cover, we would also have to build a big Stadium so that many fans get there or fixing some of the current ones even if it would mean to cover a big cost."
