Alexander Zverev shares decade-old conversation with Roger Federer

In an interview, the world No. 5 Alexander Zverev revealed a funny anecdote involving Roger Federer that happened more than a decade ago. The German said: "I got [Federer’s] autograph and he said, 'Well, maybe if you work hard, one day we might play against each other somewhere.'"

Recalling his win over Federer in the 2017 Rogers Cup final, Zverev added: “This one against Roger is something so special for me because he was always a great idol growing up for me. The greatest player of all time, beating him in a final, not just any final but in the final of a Masters 1000, is amazing.”

On how it felt to be the agent of himself after his split with agent Patricio Apey, Zverev concluded: "Now I kind of took over and do everything myself. It’s a learning experience. But I think once you go through that like I am now, you’ll come out much stronger and much better.”

Speaking of his childhood, Zverev said: “When I was growing up I played a lot of different sports. There was a time when I was playing field hockey, tennis and soccer at the same time. I was actually quite good at all of those sports."

Among the younger players, who will have more chances to replace the old guard? Toni Nadal replied: "Alexander Zverev and Nick Kyrgios. Zverev needs to improve his forehand a bit, Kyrgios his attitude."
