Bautista Agut: 'Federer had predicted I would reach Wimbledon semifinals'
In an interview to Castellon Plaza, Roberto Bautista Agut commented on how it felt to reach his maiden Grand Slam semifinals in Wimbledon where he only lost to Novak Djokovic in four sets. The Spaniard said: "I was heading there with good feelings after the Miami Open, and I had trained on clay at a high level. Then the results in those tournaments were not the ones I hoped for, but I kept working hard and preparing well and luckily on grass the work paid off."
Then Bautista Agut shared an interesting thing about Federer: "When I played in Gstaad, last week, I was speaking with Federer's coach (Severin Luthi) and he told that after that match in Halle, Roger had predicted that I would reach the Wimbledon semifinals. It's predictions that sometimes happen and sometimes don't, but he was convinced I would have had a good tournament. But the week before Wimbledon we trained and he saw my shape."
Asked if approaching his quarter-final match against Guido Pella was difficult as he knew to be the favourite, Bautista Agut concluded: "I do not know if it was one of the most complicated ones mentally, but it was similar to when I play Davis Cup because it was a very high-pressure match and very difficult to win. I was the favourite, or at least that's what I felt, and it was a good chance because you do not always have the chance to play a Grand Slam quarter-final and against an opponent you previously defeated."
