Can Jil Teichmann emulate Belinda Bencic?
Jil Teichmann, like her countrywoman Belinda Bencic, was born in 1997. After years in which the star of Swiss women's tennis was (and still is) Bencic, Teichmann is making an important place in her nation's tennis and, in the future, she could team up with Bencic, to help the nation do well in the Fed Cup.
But on the WTA Tour, can Jil Teichmann emulate Belinda Bencic's successes? Belinda plays different tennis; she has been a star since she was eighteen, and she has passed, even for the management of fame and pressure, a bad period, a couple of seasons ago. Less glamorous and less social than Bencic, Jil Teichmann won her first two WTA titles this season.
Despite some ups and downs during the season, she showed noticeable improvements, beating opponents like Barbora Strycova, Svetlana Kuznetsova and Kiki Bertens. In Prague and Palermo, she showed how clay-courts are a surface on which she expresses her best tennis. From a technical point of view, Teichmann's tennis is perhaps less spectacular than Bencic's one, but she is showing good solidity.
Despite being very young, Jil can still have chances to improve and get satisfaction in her career. She has flown under the radar all this while but after the way she has come to the fore, her opponents will now have to take Teichmann into consideration for the upcoming tournaments. At 22, she still has the best years of her career ahead of her.
