Elina Svitolina: 'I care about my look before playing matches'
For Elina Svitolina, taking care of her body and face in tournaments is the key. The Ukrainian player sometimes puts on makeup before playing matches.
"I am very careful about my look during the competition, as you can see on court, and the crowd should be happy about it. That's definitely part of the image, part of me, and I like to be good looking. I play even better when I am 100 per cent okay not just physically but also in my aspect. It does not take a lot of time but before major tournaments, I have a mandatory SPA treatment. I go to my hairdresser, I clean my skin as we sweat a lot on court. I get a massage. Being good looking before heading on the court is nice."
On how her several injuries are influencing her season, Svitolina added: "For sure I'm a little bit behind with my strength in my lower body, I would say. It was good that I had one day after each match. That definitely helps me to recover and do some strength exercise straight after the match. It's not ideal, but we had no other choice. We had to make my legs stronger. On grass, it's very important to have stability. It's one of the most important things. That's why it's a little bit of lack of fitness, I would say. But, yeah, I'm looking forward. In the gym, I have to make my legs stronger, more explosive. That's definitely one of the things I'm going to focus."
