Frances Tiafoe speaks on close relationship with his 27-year-old coach
Rising American star Frances Tiafoe says his relationship with his 27-year-old coach Zack Evenden is "bigger than a player-coach relationship."
Evenden has been the lone coach in the 21-year-old's coaching staff since last year's November.
Speaking on his relationship with his coach, Tiafoe exclusively told the Washington City Paper: "We're really close. We're like brothers pretty much. We spend a ton of time together. I see him all the time. It's bigger than a coach-player relationship, I think ... Friendship for me is really important. Everybody I surround with myself with I'm really close with."
Tiafoe made a promising start to the season as he made his maiden Grand Slam quarterfinal at the Australian Open and achieved a career-high ranking of No. 29 in the world but then his form dropped.
World No. 40 Tiafoe hasn't been enjoying a good form recently but he is hoping to get his form and confidence going at this week's ATP event in Washington.
Tiafoe beat fellow rising star Alexander Bublik 6-1 7-6 (5) in his Washington opener to put an end to his four-match losing streak.
Tiafoe will fight against world No. 10 Daniil Medvedev for a place in the Washington quarterfinal.
