Naomi Osaka opens up on tough 2019 season
Through her social media channel the Japanese player Naomi Osaka shared her deep thoughts on what the 2019 season has been for her so far. Osaka has won her second Grand Slam title in a row earlier this year in the Australian Open, then she split with her coach Sascha Bajin, she was influenced by all the buzz around it and she has struggled in finding her best shape.
Ahead of the Rogers Cup in Toronto, Osaka wrote a long post showing to be optimistic for the future. The American hard-court swing will be a very important one for her as she is the US Open defending champion. "I've learned a lot about myself and I feel like I grew so much as a person in the past years. I'm really excited what the future looks like on and off the court", Osaka wrote. "The last few months have been really rough for me tennis wise, but thankfully I'm surrounded by people I love and who love me back," she writes, jokingly adding, "hopefully hahaha. I've put so much weight on the results of my matches instead of learning from them, which is what I 'normally' do." I've met new people, and been able to do things that I've never considered doing before."
Last year Osaka lost to the Spaniard Carla Suarez Navarro in a straight-set opening round match in the Rogers Cup, which means this time she can only earn rankings points.
