Injury forces Kevin Anderson to withdraw from Rogers Cup
South-African tennis star Kevin Anderson's series of nine consecutive appearances at the Rogers Cup is set to come to an end as the 33-year-old has withdrawn from this year's event in Montreal due to a knee injury, per John Horn.
Anderson, ranked at No. 11 in the world, had been drawn to meet 29th-ranked Lucas Pouille in the Montreal first round but it will be Canadian Milos Raonic who will be facing the Frenchman after he moved into the South-African's spot.
Former world No. 5 Anderson has now picked up back-to-back tournament withdrawals as he also pulled out of this week's Citi Open in Washington.
Anderson, who achieved his career-best result at the Rogers Cup last year when he made the semifinal, is set to continue his rankings drop as he will drop a significant number of points when the ATP list gets updated after Montreal.
Following the withdrawal of Anderson -- a place in the Montreal main draw has opened for rising Polish star Hubert Hurkacz -- who will be clashing against in-form Taylor Fritz in his debut match at the tournament.
