Jared Hiltzik takes break, reveals he is dealing with depression
American tennis player Jared Hiltzik, 25, has taken an indefinite break from competing as he hopes to improve his mental health and find passion for the game once again.
Hiltzik, ranked at No. 497 in the world, last played at an ITF event at the end of July, where he was beaten by 975th-ranked Aleksandar Kovacevic in the round-of-16.
With a win over Tim Smyczek in the Winnetka Challenger first round at the beginning of last month, Hiltzik clinched his first win since February and ended a six-match losing streak.
Former world No. 339 Hiltzik's best result this year came at the Cleveland Challenger, where he made the quarterfinal as a qualifier.
"In light of the recent ATP/WTA changes that have handcuffed hundreds of players, including myself, I have decided to take an indefinite break from competing on the ATP Tour," Hiltzik announced.
"Over the past six months, I have dealt with depression due to the limbo of rule changes I was thrown into without fully understanding rules I know others have struggled with as well. I need to take some time and find that glimmer of passion that I know is still left in there."
