Marco Cecchinato: 'Win over Novak Djokovic made me quite famous in Italy'
In an interview to Gio Journal, Marco Cecchinato recalled his magical 2018 French Open run. The Italian player defeated Novak Djokovic to reach the last four. "I love how the game has impacted my life. The best moment was my semi-final at Roland-Garros. This made me quite famous in Italy and now everyone knows my name. This is one of the many things I love about the game", said Cecchinato, who is having a tough season.
He has no doubts when asked what legend of the past he would like to face: "Marat Safin, because he was very talented and was beautiful to watch play."
Also, Khachanov picked Marat Safin: "I think it would be Marat Safin, because he was one of my favourite tennis players at that time and I would love to play against him. People compare me to him a little bit and it would be interesting to see where my level is against him. Also, Andre Agassi and Pete Sampras, of course."
Asked how he would like to be remembered in 50 years, Cecchinato said: "I would like them to remember me being a nice guy on and off the court."
Frances Tiafoe disclosed what he loves the most about tennis: "One-on-one competition. Obviously, I’m a singles guy. The problem solving, the adapting constantly to your opponent and pretty much just trying to out-think your opponent", concluded the American who will skip Montreal.
