People will watch Maria Sharapova even if she is world No. 500 - Coach

The Russian coach Andrey Cheskonov commented on whether Maria Sharapova should retire from tennis as her last seasons have been hit by injuries. The Russian coach said: "It's up to her to decide. She can play until she gets older like Martina Navratilova or Martina Hingis. Even if Sharapova is No. 500, people will still watch her. In Rome, the crowd was packed when she played. While with other players, it was not that full. That's Sharapova. Her lack of matches has been influencing her, confidence and experience come by playing matches and she did not have them. It's difficult to be fit when you play a couple of matches a year while all the others compete on a consistent basis."

Meanwhile, Russia's Tennis Federation chief Shamil Tarpischev commented on how kids changed over the decades: "If we speak of tennis fans' interest, the average age got higher to 60 years. Why it is happening? Because younger players are not patient enough, they do not want to watch something for a long time. They cannot watch an intense three-hour match or even a five-hour one. If we compare this generation to the former world No. 1, Ivan Lendl, today's kids are 30 per cent worse than the 70s."

The 17-year-old American Amanda Anisimova commented on how she handles emotions. She said: "I try to keep the self-control. I was not always like this but then I started working on it every day. I try to follow Roger Federer's example. He inspires me this way. At my age, he was behaving just like me. So, I try to learn from him every day in order to improve."
