Rafael Nadal is serving like he did in 2010, says Courier

The former world No. 1 Jim Courier praised Rafael Nadal's straight-set win over John Millman on Tuesday at the US Open. The American said: "He was serving huge last night, he didn't make a high percentage of first serve, only 57 percent. Normally 66 percent is the number he is in 2019 but the speed of his serve was very reminiscent of 2010 when he jacked his serve up and won the title and then and then backed off of it for a long time. 119mph is his average speed, that's faster he has been all year. 100mph on second serve. Carlos Moya is trying to help him play shorter points, protect the body, less defense, that was on full display last night."

On Nadal, Lindsay Davenport said: "Last year here we saw Rafa struggling until the semis, he had a very long match with Thiem, and his body started to break down. This is the type of first week, he needs quick matches, efficient matches, straight sets, that gives him his best chance in the second week."

Speaking of Serena Williams, Davenport concluded: "Everything we have seen since that Wimbledon loss, her commitment this summer the practice week here leading, she was focused, she was engaged out on the court, she looked like very motivated. We saw a Serena on Monday night like, This is my last chance of the year, I am not gonna let another one pass me. How she was playing, serving and moving, that's the level that can make her win another Major."
