Roger Federer, Nadal, Serena Williams are different than the rest -Pennetta

In an interview to EFE, the 2015 US Open winner Flavia Pennetta commented on how the game has evolved since when she retired from tennis. The Italian former player said: "Over the last two years, tennis has changed a lot. Many players stopped competing and other experienced ones started having some problems and the younger players are coming and they are very strong, physically and mentally. It's difficult for Serena Williams, Maria Sharapova and Victoria Azarenka to win a Grand Slam because the younger players are coming and they are playing very well. They are very strong and in order to win a Grand Slam you have to play seven perfect matches and when you get older, it's difficult to recover."

For the Italian, coming back from an injury is something very complicated: "It's always difficult. The only player who makes it, and without problems, is Nadal... But Rafa, Roger Federer and Serena Williams, who reached a Wimbledon final some months after giving birth, are different than the rest. They are always at the top."

On Naomi Osaka, Pennetta added: "She is very young and consistent, but there are many other girls around."

On Simona Halep's Wimbledon title, Pennetta added: "I am very happy for her, her family and team because she is a very nice girl and I know how difficult is to always be at the top. When you become world No. 1, everyone thinks you should win, you always have to win and it will never be enough. After winning Wimbledon, Simona will be even stronger mentally and smarter on the court so I am sure she will win more titles."

Pennetta loves the US Open: "It's really special because you are in New York, a very nice city, and when you play on the Arthur Ashe Stadium the environment is amazing, like if you were in a film. That's why I loved playing so much in New York and I was doing very well almost all the years. New York will always be a special place for me. I love coming back her as a mother and support my husband (Fabio Fognini), so I hope I have the same feeling I have every time I come back in New York."
