Serena Williams will equal Margaret Court's record somehow, says Evert
On a call Chris Evert spoke about the US Open favorites. On Serena Williams, the 18-time Major winner said: “Serena always comes to mind first because I always feel that a healthy Serena is still going to beat everybody. She’s going to get that 24 somehow. I really have faith in her. I am a little worried about her fitness if she’s going to keep getting injured but I love her game. She plays in-your-face tennis and I love that aggressiveness.”
Speaking about the women's draw overall, Evert added: “There are probably eight to 10 women who could win (the title), which is something we’ve said the past two years. Women’s tennis is not dominated by anybody. The story is the depth of the game and you have to admire that and celebrate it.”
Meanwhile the former world No. 2 Alex Corretja spoke about the on-court coaching: "On a little court it's more or less easy, but on a Central court it's very tough. Many times the grounds are at the very top, you cannot get closer, it would be not logical to do it. I would pick a more regular coaching, without the coach being the protagonist. I keep thinking it's good that the players look for their own solutions, that's a single sport, despite there can be a view or voice contact with the team. The way you handle matches depends on the mentality of tennis and the way you prepare the match with your coach. The coach needs to understand to have freedom to speak with his player. What happens on WTA, where you can hear the coach, looks like amazing but as a player I would not like that what the coach tells me gets heard. And as a coach either."
