Di Wu: I didn't sleep well after my Zhuhai win because I was very happy
World No. 339 Di Wu reveals he didn't sleep well after his Zhuhai Championships first round win over former world No. 60 Tatsuma Ito because he was too happy.
Wu, who achieved a career-high ranking of No. 186 in the world last year, proved to the Zhuhai organizers that he was worthy a wildcard spot as he came from a set down to surprise Ito 3-6 6-3 7-5 in his opener at the tournament.
"Last night I didn’t sleep good because I was very happy to win at this big tournament,” Wu said, per the ATP website. “The Chinese Tennis Association gave me this very important wild card and I won to show them I want to come back… I had a lot of pressure on myself, but I trust myself. I played well last week making the final of a Challenger, so this week I’m playing very well also."
Next up for Wu will be world No. 14 Borna Coric, who had a first round bye at the tournament.
"This is a dream. I never passed the second round (at an ATP event),” Wu - added. “Coric is pretty strong, he played last week in a final. He’s a tough player. I’ll try to be relaxed. I hope we can keep this level."
