Qiang Wang: 'Can I beat Serena Williams? We will see...'

Qiang Wang defeated Ashleigh Barty in straight sets to reach the US Open quarter-finals. The Chinese player said: "Yes, I think I'm really focused on the court today, really enjoyed way I play. I'm so happy I win. I tried to play more patient today. Yeah, just try for the way I play."

On her next match against Serena Williams, Qiang added: "I don't know who I play next. Serena? Can I beat her, we will see. I think my coach has to do some homework today. I need recover for my body and we will talk about the match tomorrow."

On his former coach Peter McNamara who recently died, Wang added: "He helped me a lot. Is really tough to me to hear he's pass. I think he's always been there with me, yes. He told me how to play the match. He took me to the professional tennis. So, yes, that's how he teach me. He always believed me. He told me I can be the top player."

Meanwhile Johanna Konta, who defeated Karolina Pliskova, spoke about the keys of being competitive: "I think just being prepared to play every single match, to be here for as long as possible, I think including three sets. I think that helps me stay in a frame of mind to be prepared to play. Just as easily I could have lost in the first round. I was playing against a great player. I don't think there's a magic formula to stay until the end of slams."
