Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal will play US Open final, says Rusedski
Annabel Croft and Greg Rusedski believe that Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal are very likely to face each other in the US Open final on Sunday. They never played one another in New York but now that Novak Djokovic lost, they are the top favorites. Croft said: “It is unbelievable with the longevity that those two have had that we have never had that match-up here. We have nearly had it but then there has been an upset along the way. And then when you are least expecting it, it may happen. I didn’t expect what happened with Djokovic the other night so that has opened the door a little bit. We don’t want to get too ahead of ourselves but it would be exciting if it was to happen.”
Rusedski said: “I am going to get ahead of myself - I am going to say it is going to happen. 2017 they were one match away and Del Potro wrecked the party. If you look a Federer’ head-to-head on hard courts, he has got 26-0 against the three guys. And if you look at Rafael Nadal, who to me is the favourite to win the title, he has only lost two matches to everybody. That was Gael Monfils in 2012. Fedal is going to happen.”
