Guy Forget Optimistic that Roger Federer Will Play in Paris

ATP Paris Masters Tournament Director Guy Forget says he remains optimistic that Roger Federer will make it to Paris for competing in the tournament. With the possibility of a semi-final showdown between Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer, Forget and tennis fans in France remain hopeful that the Swiss maestro will make it to the tournament.

With Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal already confirmed for playing in Paris as they battle it out for the year-end No. 1 ranking, Forget is hopeful that Federer will travel to Paris from Basel where hs is currently playing in his hometown event - the Swiss Indoors - and he is through to the semi-finals.  "For now, Roger has lost six games in Basel, he qualified (for the semifinals) without playing against Stan Wawrinka, we can think, if we want to see the glass half full. He is not too tired, I have hope, we often had Sunday evening (on the eve of the Paris tournament) news unfortunately a little sad, but we will remain optimistic."

In the past, Federer has often preferred to skip Paris after playing Basel in order to reserve energy for the season-ending ATP Finals in London. Last year, it was the first time that Federer played in Paris since 2015. This year, he also competed in the French Open for the first time since 2015 after skipping the tournament for a few years in order to rest his body for the grass court and hard court seasons during which he feels he has much better chances to win the tournaments.

As per the draw released on Friday, Federer and Nadal are in the same half of the draw and could meet in the semi-finals if they both reach there while Djokovic is slated to meet Russian Daniil Medvedev in the semi-finals.
