Roger Federer is like Picasso or Mozart, says French Open chief
Would Roger Federer have been able to become a champion if he grew up in Africa? The French Open Tournament Director Guy Forget answered this question. "I think so. He is like Picasso or Mozart", said Forget. "They have something that no father, coach or mother can teach anybody. Let's take Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, the best Frenchman of this era: he achieved unbelievable things, he is much better than so many guys. But he does not have something that Federer has."
On Federer, Nadal and Djokovic, Forget added: "We are speaking of genius here. Like Cruyff, Maradona and Pelé. Or Zidane, Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo. I do not think those athletes are so good because of their Federations. I do not think Roger Federer broke through because Swiss Tennis put together a financial innovative project."
On Federer, Simon Briggs said: "He did mention he’d have two-and-a-half days before he would play again. I figured that’s why perhaps he, unlike the others, decided he wanted to play Sunday. I think recovery is going to be key to his tournament. It’s all about getting it done and getting it done quickly here because it is more physical. He has to keep his energy up.”
Meanwhile Federer's coach Severin Luthi said: "In the beginning, the one-handed backhand is a disadvantage. It's difficult to generate energy, so you mainly have to play the slice one. That means you have to wait for a longer time to get good results."
