Injury forces Joao Sousa to end his season prematurely
Portuguese tennis star Joao Sousa has withdrawn from the Paris Masters and put an end to his 2019 campaign, per Bola Amarela.
The 30-year-old decided to end his season a bit earlier so he can focus on recovering from a stress fracture in his left foot.
The injury will require a four to six week rest as the Portuguese hopes to kick off his preparation for the 2020 season fully healthy and ready.
It wasn't an especially great season for Sousa, who didn't win a title this year.
Sousa, a three-time ATP champion and former world No. 28, made only two ATP semifinals this season.
Sousa, now ranked at No. 62 in the world, finished his season on a three-match losing streak as he didn't win a match since beating Filip Krajinovic in the Shanghai Masters first round.
The Portuguese last played this past weekend, when he failed to make it past the Swiss Indoors Basel qualifying and clinch a main draw spot in the tournament.
Sousa will certainly enter the next season motivated to bounce back and return to his old level.
