Novak Djokovic reacts to appointment of ATP's new Chairman
Novak Djokovic welcomed former world No. 18 Andrea Gaudenzi as the new ATP Chairman. The Serb, who has been the Player's Council's President since 2016, said through a statement: "On behalf of the players, I’d like to welcome Andrea as the next Chairman of the ATP. As a former player, he has walked in our shoes, and has also become as a successful entrepreneur following his playing career. He has all the qualities to lead the tour and we look forward to working together for the benefit of the players and the sport more generally."
Gaudenzi said: "The ATP has played a central part in my life in so many ways, and to be given this opportunity to serve as ATP Chairman is a true honour. I look forward to overseeing the future direction of the tour and building on the sport’s global success and popularity at what is unquestionably one of the most exciting times in the history of men’s professional tennis. I’m very thankful for this opportunity and can’t wait to get started in January."
Former Swiss player Marco Chiudinelli, through a column for Basler Zeitung, spoke of Roger Federer's triumph in Basel: "With just 18 losses and less than four hours and a half of play, Roger set other two personal records at the Swiss Indoors in his four matches, dominating more than when he was a world No. 1. He still has the same passion as 18 years ago. It was a success for the Tournament Director Roger Brennwald too, the stadium was almost entirely packed during the entire week, the player's field was very big and many spectators were there, also when Federer did not play, which gives a lot of hope for the future."
