Roger Federer vs Dominic Thiem: Herwig Straka makes comparison
In an interview to Standard, the Dominic Thiem' agent Herwig Straka commented on the Austrian player's financial situation. Straka said: "He has a right strategy of investment, traditional and long term one. What exactly, I do not want to say. Leaving Austria is not a problem at all. That's clearer than it seems. The money was never a problem for him. The way he relaxes on court has always been one of his strengths. That's what makes a champion. There is not money on the back of his mind. He is an investor, a company. He signs contracts with coaches, physioterapists and me too. Dominic manages social media by himself."
On Thiem's post career plans, Straka replied: "We are trying to figure it out. It needs to come from him, not me. The destiny of oceans is his worry. At the moment I do not see a product being directly associated to Thiem."
Can an athlete from Austria become a superstar? "Contrary question: how big Switzerland is? Roger Federer is a global star. It can be that the market is more favourable for an American or a Chinese. It's about how you are as a player. Probably you will not be the world No. 1 without a Grand Slam title. The one requires the other. Being the best player in the world is the ultimate goal."
On the ATP Tour going through a changing time, Stan Wawrinka concluded: “I think it’s been the last few months going in every direction. A lot of people are pulling out of the council. A lot of other people are getting fired. It’s going to be interesting, hopefully in a positive way, but I doubt it. We’ll see what is going to happen in the next few months.”
