2018 champion Diego Schwartzman to play Rio Open in 2020

Argentina's Diego Schwartzman has signed up to play at the Rio Open next year, the tournament announced on Thursday.

The 27-year-old has been a regular participant of the Rio Open for the past several years as he will be making his sixth appearance on the clay courts of Rio de Janeiro in February.  

Schwartzman, ranked at No. 14 in the world, made his first appearance at the Rio Open in 2014 but didn't make his main draw debut as he failed to make it past the qualifying event. 

Since then, the Argentine has made five consecutive main draw appearances in Rio de Janeiro. 

Schwartzman, a former world No. 11, claimed his maiden Rio Open title last year after beating Spain's Fernando Verdasco in the final. 

The Argentine was absolutely dominant at the Rio Open in 2018 as he didn't drop a set en route to winning the title at the Brazilian ATP 500 event. 

Schwartzman, who failed to defend his Rio Open title this year after losing in the first round, will be aiming to make amends for his disappointing campaign and make another deep run at the event next year.
