Daniil Medvedev was not himself in late stages vs Rafael Nadal - Yanchuk

Several Russian tennis personalities reacted to Daniil Medvedev wasting a match point against Rafael Nadal while leading 5-1 in the third set at the ATP Finals.

Coach Viktor Yanchuk said: "It was a match of lost chances. Very rarely there are losses like this one. Winning would have been too important. Getting broken twice in the third set was something bad. That's a mystery but his mental status changed. He was not himself. He made unforced errors, changed his game style, stopped dictating rallies. In the tie-break, he seemed to be playing at a good level again but he did not."

Russia's tennis chief Shamil Tarpischev said: "The reason behind his loss is not that he was not ready for the tournament, but because he is not perfect mentally. He lacked experience, which he will get along the way. Anyways, he is able to beat Alexander Zverev on Friday."

Former world No. 1 Yevgeny Kafelnikov, posted on Twitter: "I cannot believe at what's happening in London now! If you can explain what just happened... No comment."

Coach Roger Rasheed praised Nadal's fighting spirit: "Nothing surprises me when watching @RafaelNadal, his fight & willingness to give himself the best opportunity point to point regardless of the scoreline has been his biggest weapon. It’s allowed the skill set to play its part- wow what a tennis package."
