Everybody thought Novak Djokovic would beat Thiem at ATP Finals - Courier

The former world No. 1 Jim Courier was surprised seeing that Novak Djokovic lost to Dominic Thiem in an epic thrilling match. The American, speaking on The Tennis Channel, said: "For me there is just no way that anyone thought that Djokovic would gonna lose that and he did. There is nothing wrong Novak did in this match, Dominic Thiem is presenting something different for these players that they are not used to on this surface."

Roger Federer's former coach Paul Annacone said: "I think they are used to playing Thiem when he is about 3 feet further back and things are different, he has been relentless about getting up on the baseline so when you add those miles per hour and you take away 3 more feet than your opponent, that ball gets on you so quickly. Look, the majority of the match Thiem is hitting the ball 85mph on his forehand and almost 80 on his backhand. And when you take that space away and you add this speed is brutal even for the best defender that has ever played the game."

Courier also spoke about Alexander Zverev's win over Nadal: "Zverev was on the top of these rallies a lot and he was getting a lot of early offense in there and this court can make you look slow because the ball skits, it stays lower than it does on other surfaces because it's indoors. Even Shanghai which is a fast court", he concluded.
