Jiri Vesely regains confidence as he aims to return where he once was

After a breakthrough season on the Tour in 2017, Jiri Vesely failed to continue his rise the following season as injuries took a toll on him and made him lose his confidence. 

On Sunday, former world No. 35 Vesely returned to the winners' circle, when he beat Belgian veteran Steve Darcis in the Eckental Challenger final to lift his first title since making it all the way at the Prostejov Challenger in 2017. 

"It feels really good. Back in 2017 I played my best season. Then I suffered from injuries and it took a pretty long time to believe in myself again and to come back," Vesely said after the final, as revealed on Tennis TourTalk. 

Vesely, who entered the Eckental Challenger ranked at No. 119 in the world, is projected to climb up to No. 104. 

"It would be nice to reach the main draw of the Australian Open. If not, I am convinced to do so at Roland Garros. I don’t have to defend too many points until Wimbledon. So, it should work out for me," Vesely added
