Martina Hingis: 'I am Happier Than Ever'
Former World No. 1 Martina Hingis says she is in a happy place in her life right now. In an interview with Blick, the multiple Grand Slam champion says, "Right now everything fits. I have a great man and a heartfelt daughter. I am happier than ever. I do not know what the future will bring. I'm looking forward to the Exhibitions, my work with the Fed Cup team and the Swiss Tennis Academy. I will not be bored. And who knows, maybe I'll stand on the tennis court together with my daughter in a few years' time."
Hingis recently became a mother and said she is hoping to play the events of the legend at the Grand Slams in 2020 once her daughter is a few more months older. "My daughter Lia is now nine months old. Being a mother is something unique. Luckily she is a good sleeper. That I could travel less in the last few months is no problem. I knew what to expect. Meanwhile, everything works fine. So I'm going to start playing Exhibitions again, and I want to play the legends in 2020 at the Grand Slams."
The 39-year-old also says in the same interview that she has no plans to change her residence from Switzerland. "Switzerland is my home. It gives me security and security. Here I can express myself in my mother tongue. I also had a house in Florida. But living permanently in the USA has never been an issue. Here in Switzerland, I have my horses and my colleagues."
Hingis spent a total of 209 weeks as the singles world No. 1 and 90 weeks as doubles world No. 1. Besides winning five Grand Slam singles titles, she also won 13 Grand Slam doubles titles and seven Grand Slam mixed doubles titles and an Olympic silver medal.
