Argentina Davis Cup Team Captain Gaston Gaudio has completed his team for the inaugural Davis Cup Finals as doubles specialist Maximo Gonzalez has filled the last available spot in the team.
Gonzalez, 36, joins world No. 15 Diego Schwartzman, 20th-ranked Guido Pella, former world No. 21 Leonardo Mayer and fellow doubles specialist Horacio Zeballos in the Argentine team that will be battling in Madrid for the Davis Cup glory from November 18-24.
Remaining patient and waiting for his Davis Cup chance eventually paid off for 36-year-old Gonzalez, who made his Davis Cup debut in a 2017 World Group Play off tie between Argentina and Kazakhstan.
Captain Gaudio is now expected to use Schwartzman, Pella and Leonardo Mayer in singles rubbers, while a Gonzalez and Zeballos combination will be used for doubles rubbers.
Gonzalez, ranked at No. 35 on the doubles list, and doubles world No. 39 Zeballos have proved capable of playing well alongside each other, having made three ATP finals together this year.
