Neal Skupski: Rafael Nadal e Feliciano Lopez hit big shots at right time
British doubles specialist Neal Skupski kept it classy after falling short with Jamie Murray against Spain's Rafael Nadal and Feliciano Lopez in the decisive rubber of the semifinal tie between Great Britain and Spain.
Skupski and Murray, who have been playing together on the Tour regularly since the grass season, didn't play bad but world No. 1 Nadal was too much for them as he was the key in Spain winning the doubles rubber 7-6 (3) 7-6 (8).
The Britons had their chances in the second set but missed out on them as they had a set point in the 12th game of the set and three more set points in the tie-break.
After blowing four set points, Skupski and Murray saved the first match point they faced but couldn't do the same on the second match point as Nadal and Lopez won to delight the local crowd and propel Spain into the final.
"I thought Jamie and I played a good match. Their guys served really well. We did have our chances, but they came up with big shots at the right time," Skupski said after the match, per the BBC Sport.
