Nicola Kuhn ends 2019 campaign, targets big 2020 season

Rising Spanish star Nicola Kuhn has decided to call it a season due to a left knee injury after consulting with his team as he doesn't want to risk anything with his injury since he wants to enter the 2020 season fully healthy and ready.

The 19-year-old Spaniard last played three weeks ago at the Las Vegas Challenger, where he was beaten by fellow rising star Ernesto Escobedo in the second round after a three-set battle.

"Well, here comes the season to an end. Due to a left knee injury, my team and I had to take the decision to pull out till the rest of the season. Not it's time to rest and work on my rehab," world No. 213 Kuhn said in a statement posted on his Twitter account.

2017 French Open boys' singles runner-up Kuhn claimed his lone title of this season at the Segovia Challenger in August, before achieving his career-high ranking of No. 174 in the world last month.

"I would like to thank everyone who has been supporting me this year. Another year passed, with many changes, with good times and bad times. We will come back stronger next year, with a new motivation and even more passion than ever before. There is no way around (but) hard work, so, embrace the pain and make it your strength," Kuhn added.
