Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic played the best match of 2019, says Becker

Speaking to BBC the former world No. 1 Boris Becker was asked which was the best match of the 2019 season. The German said: "Without a shadow of a doubt the Wimbledon final between Federer and Djokovic. Two players in the prime of their sport, giving it their all and going to a tie-break in the fifth set. It was the first time we have seen that in a Wimbledon final."

Becker believes Djokovic will retain his All England Club title next year: "The younger guys have a lot of power and hit through the groundstrokes harder than the veterans and Wimbledon may be the showdown where they break through. But you can never go wrong with the defending champion. I'll say Novak."

On who can win in the Australian Open, Tim Henman said: "I will go for Djokovic. I think his record is so good down under. He has got enough time for rest and recuperation that he is the man to beat."

Analyzing this year's ATP Finals, Henman added: "There has been some incredible tennis and amazing matches but quite a few upsets. I think when you look at the finalists, Tsitsipas and Thiem, not many would have picked that at the beginning of the week."

Analyzing the 2019 season, Henman concluded: "It has been a brilliant year. The rankings don't lie. For Nadal to finish as number one - the oldest male year-end number one at 33 and a half years of age is an incredible achievement."

Russia's tennis chief Shamil Tarpischev said: "I think Medvedev had a very successful season of course. He could have done more if he did not play eight finals. That's a bit too much. Such an amount of matches influenced him physically and mentally. He just did not manage to recover for the Finals. In the Davis Cup we still want to reach quarter-finals but we have the group of the death. We need to give our best."
