Week 47: the new era of the Davis Cup final begins

The last week of the tennis season coincides with a new beginning: the new era of the Davis Cup Finals is ready to begin. At the Caja Mágica in Madrid, in Spain (the same of the ATP Masters 1000 Mutua Madrid Open), the 18 teams will play the unprecedented final week, thanks to the new format that will revolutionize the Davis Cup starting from this edition.

Everyone knows the format: 18 teams divided into six groups of 3 teams each. The group winners and the two best seconds will qualify for the quarter-finals. Kosmos, the investment group leads by Gerard Piqué (Barcelona soccer player) decided for this new format: right or wrong choice?

Here are the rounds robin:

Group A with France, Serbia and Japan. Group B with Croatia, Spain and Russia. Group C with Argentina, Germany and Chile. Group D with Belgium, Australia and Colombia. Group E with UK, Kazakhstan and the Netherlands. Group F with USA, Italy and Canada.

This week there will also be the last ATP Challenger torunament of the season: the Maia Challenger (Portugal, on indoor clay-courts). The WTA season will have an appendix from December 16th, with the WTA 125K Open de Limoges (France, on indoor hard-courts).

Also this year tennis gave us great emotions, from the beginning in Australia. This week will be as exciting as all the others. We will meet again with the weekly column with 2020 week 1!
