Beating Rafael Nadal, Fabio Fognini has shown his potential - Budge

Fabio Fognini has committed to the ASB Classic in Auckland. Through a statement the Tournament Director Karl Budge praised the Italian player who has shown multiple times during his career that he can deliver an unbelievable tennis: “Fabio is one of the true entertainers on the ATP Tour. He is quite possibly the most naturally talented guy on tour. When he is on, there are few players that can stick with his level, as he showed beating Rafa in Monte Carlo – a tournament Rafa (Nadal) has owned throughout his career. His array of shot making is unbelievable and is always entertainment plus. That is really important for us to have that variety and contrast of styles", said Budge, who also spoke about who between Daniil Medvedev, Denis Shapovalov can go far in the long term future in the biggest tournaments around the world: “I couldn’t be happier at securing the services of these three youngsters.

Not only are they part of a really exciting group that will be leading the Men’s game for the next decade, they have already shown they will be fighting for Grand Slams in 2020. Medvedev has probably had the most impressive season on tour whilst Denis’ finish to the year was mighty impressive. I genuinely believe any of these three could go on to capture the Australian Open right after us."

On Behind the Racquet Jamie Murray spoke about the journalists often asking him questions about his brother Andy: “I guess it’s something that I was used to, starting around 16 or 17. Andy made his breakthrough into the big leagues around 18 when he played Queens and then made third round of Wimbledon. For a long time, people would talk to me just because they wanted to ask Andy questions, which still happens today. People come up asking me where Andy is and how he is doing. People would do interviews with me in the hopes that they could get to him. The last five or six years, I feel like that’s changed quite a lot. People now want to talk to me because of my own achievements that I’ve had in my career, which to be honest feels pretty nice after all this time."
