Craig Tiley on Wozniacki 'Our feelings will be Bittersweet when we welcome Caroline'
Australian Open Tournament Director Craig Tiley says he will have bittersweet feelings in January when Caroline Wozniacki comes to Melbourne for the Australian Open, knowing that it would be the last tournament of Dane's illustrious career.
Wozniacki announced that she would retire after the Australian Open in January, the tournament where she achieved her greatest success - winning her only Grand Slam title here in 2018. Wozniacki won 30 WTA titles in all and was No. 1 for 71 weeks in total. The Dane said that she would like to focus on other projects as well as she hopes to have a family with husband David Lee.
According to EkstraBladet, Tiley says, "Our feelings in January will be bittersweet when we welcome Caroline back to the Australian Open, knowing it will be her last tournament. Caroline is a crowd favorite here in Australia and was a hugely popular and gracious champion in 2018. We look forward to celebrating her amazing career and achievements. And although she will be missed, we look forward to preserving our relationship, just as we hope for a bright future for her and her family."
Wozniacki's career will surely be celebrated at the tournament when she plays her final match - either at the Rod Laver Arena or one of the surrounding courts. Wozniacki has confirmed she will also play the WTA event in Auckland as a warm-up for the Australian Open.
The Australian Open Grand Slam event starts on January 20th.
