Daniil Medvedev: 'I am not the new bad boy of the Tour'

In an interview, as quoted by Sport Express, Daniil Medvedev spoke about the matches he won in the North American swing and in Shanghai. The Moscow native said: "Not many players on the tour were able to achieve what I did over those three months of competition. It was something amazing that makes me feel proud about myself. It's definitely the result of the intense work I did behind the matches over the last two years and a half. My life is completely focused on tennis. This success came all of a sudden but it was clear to me that sooner or later it would come."

Medvedev also shared: "At the US Open I decided not to celebrate my wins, even if matches were difficult against the best players in the world. Of course, I am very happy inside myself. I think it can look a bit arrogant but it's not for nothing. Many people said, 'This Russian is so good, how he is after wins.' I really liked this idea a lot, so I will try to keep following it. Everyone knows that after every win there is no celebration."

Do we have a new bad boy on Tour? "I do not think so, I do not really like that they consider me this way. If in the next five years they keep considering me like this, then I will not be able to do anything to turn it around. For me reading Marat Safin's quotes when I heard about it was interesting. He said, Did you look at his mentality? How can this kid be a bad boy? He is a good boy'."
