I played my worst career match against Serena Williams, says Suarez Navarro
What was the worst career match Carla Suarez Navarro has ever played in? The Spanish player said: "Against Serena Williams in the 2017 US Open. It was on the Central Court, on my birthday and we played at 7:00 PM. I lost 6-0 6-0", said Suarez Navarro adding that Serena Williams is the best player she has ever faced.
On her path on the WTA Tour, Suarez Navarro added: "I am proud about my career. Tennis is difficult and it would be sad that I would retire being disappointed. I would like to get past the (Grand Slam) quarter-finals, but I appreciate everything I did because I gave everything. To be honest, I do not think about it. I reached seven quarters, but many times I lost before."
She has not reached the quarters at Wimbledon: "On grass I struggle the most. You have two weeks to adapt to the surface, everything goes very quick and the big servers get rewarded, which is not my case."
Meanwhile the former world No. 1 Marat Safin said he may get involved in the world of tennis: "I will not say which area I would take [next] ... but I'm definitely open to any opportunities. I would look at any types of projects but it would have to be interesting. It depends on the situation." He is looking forward to the ATP Cup: "Unfortunately not everybody can play for Russia, but still we have a great team ... the situation is amazing. For me it will be a pleasure if I could help in some way ... I can see the potential here."
