Ivanisevic: 'Sometimes me and Djokovic laugh for five minutes just before a match'

Goran Ivanisevic spoke about the good time he spends with Novak Djokovic off the court. The Croat, who has been coaching the Serb since June at Wimbledon, said: "It all depends on how Novak feels. Sometimes we Watch a funny video together and we laugh for five minutes before the match. The rule is that there are no rules. But when he goes out there, I never saw such a focused player, he is unbelievable and you can understand why he won so many Majors. We have a good relationship in general, and after all I tell Novak anecdotes about my career. Having the same mentality and language is useful."

On Croatia's run at the Davis Cup Finals in Madrid, Ivanisevic said: "It did not go well, but without Cilic and with Borna Coric being unhealthy, we could not expect more. The good thing is that Borna Gojo showed his potential. We have to keep working with the younger guys. There were some good balanced matches but Nadal saved the whole story in the end. We will see how it will be in the future."

On Cilic having a poor season because of injuries, Ivanisevic said: "He is a too good of a player not to be back. A player with so many shots needs to be higher ranked. The path will be tough now, but he can come back."

Ivanisevic revealed both he and Roger Federer's coach Ivan Ljubicic rejected to become Croatia's Davis Cup team captains. The 2001 Wimbledon champion said: "I was in contact with the Federation leaders and I suggested the best possible situation. Ivan Ljubicic and I kindly thanked for the invitation. The person who they are looking at is welcome by the players and he has good relationship with them. Hopefully he accepts."
