Judy Murray Honoured with LTWA Services to Tennis Award
The Lawn Tennis Writers' Association, of the United Kingdom, has honored Britain's Judy Murray with the LTWA Services to Tennis Award.
The Chairman's welcome speech was delivered by LTWA's newly elected Chairman Simon Briggs from the Daily Telegraph, who has been Chairman of the Association only since July.
Judy Murray was seated alongside the All England Club's new chairman Ian Hewitt, COE Richard Lewis and other tennis personalities. The ceremony was held at Centre Court’s refurbished debenture lounge at the All England Lawn Tennis Club.
Judy, a former Fed Cup captain for Britain, gave an inspiring speech promoting the needs for children from all backgrounds to be given opportunities to learn how to play tennis. Besides being a former British Fed Cup captain and coaching her sons Andy Murray and Jamie Murray, Judy has also been very active in promoting tennis at the grassroots level in the United Kingdom and Scotland.
Dan Evans, the new British Number one player, was the nominee for The International Award. He was unable to attend the ceremony and instead asked Matt Gentry, the agent of Andy Murray, to accept the award on his behalf.
There was also a legendary charity raffle held by Tony Hawks, author and comedian, and Anabel Croft, TV presenter and commentator. The raffle raised around £5,000 for the Motor Neurone Disease charity.
The Lawn Tennis Writersʼ Association of Great Britain was established during the British Hard Court Championships at the West Hants Club in Bournemouth in 1951.
