Kei Nishikori may miss Australian Open

World No. 13 Kei Nishikori has once again underlined that he won't his rush comeback from an elbow surgery as he admits there is a chance he might miss the Australian Open, which starts on January 20. 

Per Nikkan Sports, the 29-year-old's plan remains to return to action in January or February but he will give himself time to fully recover as he wants be at his best when the second part of the next season comes. 

Nishikori, who underwent a season-ending elbow surgery at the end of October, has started hitting sponge balls and he hopes to able to practice with regular balls at the end of December. 

In his interview, the Japanese tennis star also confirmed that he intends to represent his country in a Davis Cup tie against Ecuador, which will take place from March 06-07.

After undergoing a season-ending wrist surgery in 2017, world No. 4 Nishikori missed the Australian Open in January 2018 but returned to action at a Challenger event in late January.
