Khwaja Saeed Hai: I believe that ITF should support Pakistan
Pakistani tennis legend Khwaja Saeed Hai wasn't happy with the International Tennis Federation's decision to shift the venue for the Asia/Oceania Group I tie between Pakistan and India.
The tie was originally scheduled to be held in Islamabad but India requested from the ITF to shift the tie to a neutral location due to security reasons.
Pakistan appealed after the ITF accepted India's request but unsuccessfully as the tie was held in Kazakhstan.
Pakistan's top players Aisam-Ul-Haq Qureshi and Aqeel Khan weren't happy with the ITF's decision and boycotted the tie.
A Pakistani team consisting of teenagers stood no chance in Kazakhstan as India claimed a comfortable 4-0 win.
"In recent years many foreign teams have played Davis Cup ties in Pakistan and safely returned home with ITF referee and managers of those countries giving satisfactory remarks,” Hai exclusively told The News International.
“Pakistan has always wanted to create friendship with India. The Indian Davis Cup team should have visited Islamabad without any fear. I think an opportunity for improving ties between the two countries was wasted.
“I personally appeal to ITF to compensate Pakistan for this wrong and damaging decision of shifting the tie out of our country. I believe that the ITF should support Pakistan."
