Nicolas Mahut hopes France makes deep run at ATP Cup

France's Nicolas Mahut, 37, is looking forward to the inaugural ATP Cup

Besides Mahut, French ATP Cup captain Sebastien Grosjean also nominated Gael Monfils, Lucas Pouille, Benoit Paire and Edouard Roger-Vasselin.

France will start its ATP Cup campaign in Brisbane battling against Serbia, South Africa and Chile.

The winner of the group will progress into the knockout stage, which will be held in Sydney.

"It is a brand-new competition. I am really excited that we are going to have a new captain that will be Gilles Simon. I am really excited to be on the court, with him on the bench. That will be a really good experience. We will start in Brisbane and hopefully finish in Sydney. I want to see how this works. I am really excited about this competition," Mahut told the ATP Tour.

Unfortunately for the French team, they suffered a blow as Pouille announced his withdrawal from the ATP Cup on Monday.

It remains to be seen who will replace the injured Pouille in the French team for the ATP Cup.
